That's an interesting bit of feedback. Feels like directly related to that same venting hardware

I have a few friends with M62s and will test a known good used OE vent valves when I get a chance to grab one and will post back. I also noticed I may have an aftermarket fuel cap on there now and may potentially replace this as well. Does the vent valve do anything on fill up? Why would it only have a hard start at the gas pump after filling up? After I get her going the starts are flawless until the next fill up...

Yes, only after filling the tank. Starts every time after that until you fill the tank again.

Well sounds like a used vent valve test will have to happen...

I know the fuel EVAP system doesn't run when either too full or two empty so there is some problem related. Maybe the valve is supposed to close but doesn't or vice versa.

I'd say the URO valve is junk. Googled the issue and there are a bunch of results pointing to the vent valve...

As far as I can remember, my valve was stuck open so one theory could be that as a person fills the tank the intake gets filled with fuel vapours causing the hard start(needing to step on gas peddle to clear) . I didn't get a chance to take off the cap at a partial tank to see what would happen but might be interesting.

Could be the fuel tank breather valve.

I will get one from the dealer along with a new gas cap as the one I have now appears to be aftermarket...

Picked up the vent valve and gas cap from a local BMW dealer and installed. I can already tell it's better as the valve is ticking a lot more then the URO one. I will post back after the next fill up to see if this resolves the hard start after refilling...
