On my system I can add apps to the Google account and it will add them across all the systems so maybe add the where'd I park type of app and let it load automatically the 1st time the head unit connects?

Thanks for the replies all. Unfortunately the car is not insured for theft. In The Nehtherlands we have 3 options to choose from, given this is an older car and my age (26) I went for option 1 which is the cheapest with the least coverage. It only covers damage to others. So I wont get any money from the insurance company if it gets stolen. The building where it was stored in belongs to my uncle but only his own stuff in insured, the X5 belongs to me so there is nothing they can do. All gone.

The Android Find My Device option does work and the radio is registered BUT it will only show the location when connected to WIFI or 4G Network, so that doesn't work(I have tried to locate it soooo many times but I'm still trying.
I should have added an app that would let me track GPS coordinates. Or a stand alone GPS tracker.

I'm still hoping we will find the car. I have been searching in the surrounding towns and a little further in The Hague. I have checked all industrial areas but no luck so far. It could already be stripped for parts by now...

My Facebook post has reached over 1200 shares. It even got to Australia! My brother has shared the car in many BMW pages and Stolen item pages all over Europe and setup a website with most special parts info and pictures: https://kevinboer.nl/22-gf-tf/

Still hoping we or the Police will find it back in one piece...

So strange as the e53 holds more sentimental value to the owner than part out street value. Sounds like a dumb thief and considering the way they stole it they probably just wanted to joy ride it. I'd imagine they followed you from somewhere locally and were waiting for the perfect moment to catch you slipping. My bet is it is not too far from you...

It stands out. If they are driving it, you might get lucky. Keep trying that GPS. Maybe they'll connect it to wifi at some point.

I've been wanting to add a small stand-alone tracker to mine just because but the ones I've found are subscription based (like for dealerships) and I just want to buy the hardware and monitor myself.

Ditto. We should look into affordable self tracking solutions. What happened to SpookX5 is one of my biggest fears.

What options are out there? I currently have a kenwood touch screen with GPS that came with mine. I think it's an android unit?

We should start a new thread detailing ideas and solutions so we don't bugger up Spook's thread. I think CW may have some ideas way ahead of me but we could all collaborate on at least an GPS tracking education.

That sucks! Sorry to hear it impacts you so badly. Seems it was a crime of opportunity as these cars are now well past the point where demand for parts would be attractive. I also can't imagine it would be a candidate for trying to export past EU borders.

Its a stretch... but EVERYONE around here has a Ring or "Ring Style" video recording doorbell, if you could canvas the local neighborhood I'm sure people would be sympathetic, you may find video of at least the direction they went.

My Dads neighbor had his 18 wheeler stolen from in front of his house and the neighbors Ring doorbell at the corner of his street caught them taking the "wind breaker" off the cab and flattening the tires to pull it in to a garage literally around the corner from his.
