I still felt a bit of slop in the drivetrain when hitting the gas some times. Decided I might needed new engine/motor mounts and a transmission mount while I was ordering that I though why not replace the rear differential bushings and diff carrier bushing. I bought some PU bushings for that. After looking and trying to remove the bushings I could not found a way to get in there. So I bought the correct tool for that. So the X5 was put on the lift Got the old mount off with some threaded rod and the front jack up plate from my GC8 Subaru. If you want to replace this yourself I advise you to get the correct tool for it. Took me way to long! Exhaust mods: I modded the stock exhaust to function as a straight through muffler, removed cut outs and installed X pipe. I must admit, this looks very bad All packed up with stuffing and stainless steel scouring pads I added the X pipe in the middle section and I removed my dual cut outs. After welding I painted the exhaust with some heat resistant paint to keep some of the rust away as the material is mild steel. I was really surprised after start up because the exhaust was very quiet! Kind of nice but I expected more sound. I sound almost the same as a resonator delete. I think it will get a bit louder when the packing will get some heatcycles and gets wet because of condensation. The transmission mount smoothed out most of the slop. Yet to test idle vibration when in D because it was vibrating the whole car when stopped in D. Engine mounts will fix it for sure! This all took way to long so I had no time to replace the motor mounts. Maybe next weekend or after the holidays because I'm also busy with a Porsche Cayenne 955, fitting a TechArt Magnum bodykit. The car is currently getting painted but needs to be put together when it comes back. The X5 is doing great as a daily driver, loving the heated seats on the cold mornings |

What is the trans mount part number? I was having trouble finding it on RealOEM.

I just realized your truck is a pre-LCI that has been facelifted Jordi. Always thought it was a late model. Scared me for a sec because the trans mount has a different part number for my truck (already ordered and have here on hand).
But get your engine mounts done. Will make that feel like a new X I'm sure. It smoothed out 99% of the NVH on my N62 and I haven't done the trans mount yet.

This part number is labeled as the transfer case mount on FCP but as a trans mount in ECS?

Can't wait to get the engine mounts done! The transmission mount has really changed the feel already! It's much smoother and you know... smooth is fast Quote:
Yes, it's just a 2000 X5 with modded headlights. I was thinking about getting parts together to convert it but then I decided to stay with the pre-LCI. Looks pretty mean |

Oh duh. I see now. The avatar picture looked like it had the swoops under the headlights rather than that trim piece. *facepalm*

Update and fixes time!
After doing the transmission mount and engine mounts the car felt really smooth, no slop at all. I did replace the differential mounts (3 in total) with PU bushes. I had to take the diff out the fit them which took some time but was worth it and the old bushing were done. In December and begining for January I kept getting fogged up windows. One time when it rained hard I was getting wet socks I had to find this leak asap! This one turned out to be a loose sunroof drain. No wet socks anymore But the windows kept fogging up even after a while. When checking all door drains I noticed that the back carpet was soaking wet. Front was fine. Turned out to be the vapor barrier / tape that was not sealing anymore! Time to take the door panels off and fix this. I bought some new butyl tape and took off the door panels. This was also a great time to upgrade the speakers as I already had them ready, fitting came just a little earlier then planned. Taped up vapor barrier that leaked bad. After I cleaned up all the water I did not find rust I tested all the vapor barriers prior to repair and both rear ones leaked. The fronts not really. I had loads of audio upgrades ready to go in, sound deadening, speakerrings and 10 new speakers! Completly covered the inside door with sound deadening as much as I could. STEG speakers mounted upside down due to wires I took the carpet out to let it completely dry. It took about 2.5 days! Meanwhile I cleaned the inside. Looks new. I still had loads of sound deadening left so I used it on the floors Same here It felt good to have the seats out and give the carpet a good clean. I'm so happy that the leaks are now fixed and that the car is dry. Nice bonus is that only had to take off the doorcards one time for these jobs. The speakers sound amazing! I believe the sound deadening made this possible. I love the sound when closing the door now. Feels much more solid and it's much heavier. I did not have much time to care for the E53 lately because I was working on the Cayenne Project. It's now finished and back from the paint shop. Took me many hours to get the fibreglass parts fitted correctly but the result is amazing. It's a beast for sure, both looks and sound I still prefer the X5 though, the Cayenne feels more basic and less technical advanced. Today I went out and took some pictures, just for fun and to listen to the speakers Unfortunately the snow we had here only lasted a few hours and all was melted very quick. So no snow pictures. Not long after taking the pictures heavy rain started. Gives a nice vibe to the pictures. Exhaust clip with Stock headers, Stock cats, X pipe, customized stock mufflers (see earlier post) The Stock resonator has been deleted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW6G...ctures%2FJordi It sound pretty good, I did not expect that because inside the car it's very quiet, when cruising at 60mph it's silent. Next things to do for the X5 are: Get a little more exhaust sound, the mufflers block too much sound for my liking. New Aux belts as one of them or a bearing is noisy. New valve cover gaskets and paint New oil and filter Raise the front about 1 cm to match the rear and to avoid rubbing when cornering hard. |
