That's a smart test. IR thermometer on the downstream hose also.

They make a hose clamp pliers specifically for closing off a hose. Great for changing parts wo draining the coolant.

Just had the same symptoms. Cooler on drivers side hotter on passenger. Got a recharge and is back to normal. I was told by Indy that the computer shuts down passenger side when
Temperature output is below parameters?
Just happy it was fixed

Took the X5 to get the AC checked and sure enough it was pretty low on refrigerant. It vacuumed out .18Lbs and the proper level is .97lbs. The snap on ac machine did all the work and reported no leaks. I'm happy to report ice cold AC on all vents!Name: 20200703_130216.jpg

Great! Thanks for reporting back another success!

Did you ask your friend about swapping the valves?

I had the tiniest pinhole/crack in my radiator (didn't even drip enough to see anything under the car) once that somehow was causing the A/C to act strange like that. Put in a new radiator and everything was back to normal. This was AFTER having the system evacuated and recharged (twice).

So make sure you entire cooling system is rock solid and will hold pressure. It's more likely the refrigerant (as stated) but it all has to be healthy to work as designed.

Just a side note.

If anyone has a hole or crack (yes I'm laughing) in their tank you can buy all the o-rings and bands to swap the tanks yourself for a fraction of the price as long as the core is in good shape.
