Nice! Glad the results were worth it. Now add a grille to your side door and be amazed at the +3db difference. Or just drive around with out it.

Yep, 2 separate grills ordered so I can see what I like better then install.
I'm gonna be anal about that so that part of project may take a while for me before it's executed.

Think about mounting your amp so it gets air flow.
With your stealth box, do you have to remove it to change tail light bulbs? Looks tight.

Ok, the more I listen to this MB Quart Shallow mount sub and modified factory enclosure, the more I'm in love with the stereo system I have in X5 now.
JL speakers all around,
Sat radio & BlueBus for more modern music sources,
MTX amp with
MB Quart DVC sub (set to 2 OHM and gain at about half)...
WOW, this sub and enclosure reallllly make the bass feeling flow through the vehicle now. I feel it so much in my driver seat.
A different bass than I had before, but now my music is cleaner. The sub still hits hard and rumbles well, for me, but the quality of bass is cleaner.
I listen to a LOT of EDM (ie: Avicii and Lenny Kravitz - Superlove) and Tropical House (Kygo) and I'm hearing sounds I've not heard before as my previous external sub may have been too loudly set.
I can't believe the sound that's able to come out of a small enclosure.

We have overlapping listening tastes (was sad to lose avicii). Your experience is consistent with a reasonably powered 10" sub in adequate airspace. Very tight and accurate, while still hitting low enough and powerful enough for most music genres'.

Thanks for sharing your account and giving those looking for a stealthy solution to those that are looking for good bass reproduction.

Good to hear you are happy about the sound and especially the sub. Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do, so is driving so combining these two is amazing. You don't just hear the music, you feel it too

I got a question about the speakers, mine are still the originals. What did you replace the mid speakers with? (The 2 in the dash and 2 smaller ones the rear doorpanel) I keep reading about Memphis Audio but they are hard to get over here...

So I finally finalized the job. Speaker grill added and as much as I wish it was smaller, i still think it looks ok. But most importantly it will protect the sub.
See first post for last few pics of box and how much I cut out of the panel (and insulation on back) and how it looks with and without the rubber trunk floor mat.

Ok neat to note...
I am tearing down a perfect factory sub box (to convert to a single MB Quart 10" sub) and during the teardown I discovered the subs are actually Dual Voice Coil subs. Nifty AND the factory Sub enclosure came just STUFFED with poly.

That is pretty unique, what ohm are they? I would have expected the factory amp to want 4 ohms, interesting actually. And even they must have realized that the internal poly fill would damp vibration and make the 6” ers sound much better
