Question for guys with 3.0 X5 (M54 engine)

I'm very familiar with M62 map controled thermostat but not so much with M54 one.
I'm trying to figure it out if this is weird behaviour or normal:
When I bought my 06 3.0 X5 about a month ago I realized it had thermostat stuck open (KTMP was between 75 C - 85 C) and there was stored fault code but no CEL.
I replaced it with OEM Wahler and it mainly shows now 85 C to 95 C.
I bled the coolant correctly and there is no code.
Considering this is 97 C thermostat, is this normal?
I'm well aware that coolant operating temp depends on many factors: ambient temp, engine load, condition of radiator (clean or dirty) etc...
Also, the coolant temp sensor is in the back of the head vs M62 where it sits in the front so I'm thinking this does make a difference.
I've also read the discusions about Wahler vs Behr / Mahle but it seems it's more of personal preference vs proven one better or the other.
Anyway, I figured I'd check what kind of KTMP (obd meny #7) you guys see.
What say you masses?
TIA.

I also use Wahler tstat for my 2006 X5 M54.
The stuff you reported are "normal"...

I don't often see anything below 90c but 95-100c is probably the normal range for me. It has a heater to get it to open at a lower temp when needed so that explains why you see lower than 97 regularly

Well, that is good to hear.
I suspected if there was same issue after t-stat replacement I'd get another fault code but never did.
Thank you.

Yes, I'm familiar with MAP thermostat so that sort of makes sense as it can overide "set" mechanical 97 C opening point. for a variety of reasons.

I'm out on errands. I'll pull up the real-time data maybe on my phone app and graph a chart

Thank you.
Those are higher than mine obviously but then we have to take into account ambient temp, engine load etc...
I'm still little bit puzzled but I have no big temp swings so definetely not air in the system.
And still no t stat fault code so I have to assume everything is ok.
