Reinstalled business radio and CD player, but radio doesnt work

I took out the aftermarket head unit that was in my truck. Worked fine, installed with the aftermarket black adapter that connects the CD portions of the plug. The white plugs were not used. I'm reinstalling the factory business CD unit / radio. The CD player will eject and insert discs but the radio portion / telephone / audio doesn't display or turn on. Checked all the fuses they're fine. What else should I check? Seems like I have an extra plug as well. I have the big black plug to the CD and the antenna, then the white to the side of the radio/menu unit.

Edit: Sorry, 2006 E53 4.4.

In dash unit is actually just a display, the actual “radio” is under the spare tire. May want to remove the spare tire and down in there beside the battery, under the floor of the spare tire, is the actual radio module and make sure everything is plugged in back there. May get lucky.

Checked out the radio module under the spare tire and this is what I found. Is that the radio module to the left? Their is nothing plugged in to the right plug. Does is all look ok? If it is then I am thinking the information /radio/phone unit is bad. Anything else I can check? The aftermarket radio worked fine, besides the steering wheel controls.

Your radio is supposed to take up that empty space you have in the left side of the plastic bracket.
So no, if you were supposed to have your radio placed in the back, then it does not look ok.

Edit:
After looking at your picture again, it seems like there's no harness for the radio either. So your car never had the radio in the back.

It should look like this

The "radio" is in the CD player unit. The only vehicles with the "radio" in the back by the battery are the ones that had nav radios/large displays.

Those with the alpine hi-fi units also have the radio module by the battery as well. Mine is no nav, alpine hi-fi and my radio module is directly behind the battery.

That said, I don’t see a harness there for the radio module either so yours must be the unit built in to the cd, or, someone removed it and cut the harness back. Still curious that the cd “works” but the radio display does not. Maybe a bad display unit??

That is kind of what I am thinking, a bad display unit. Wish someone was close to swap and see. Hate to buy one and it not work because of another issue. But I have checked all the wiring and nothing is cut or spliced into. Followed all the wires and they only used the large black plug in the back of the cd player with the adapter for it. They spliced everything in to the adapter, nothing on the car side of the wiring. hmmmm.

Going to do a battery cable pull (Crtl-Alt-Dlt) and see if that might reset something. Will report back my findings.

Are you sure that's not you Alpine HiFi amplifier? I can't find any non navigation Alpine systems with radio module in the rear.

I could be wrong but can you verify a radio antenna connection on that module?

True story, LoL, amp is in the side compartment as I had to tap the harness for my sub install. Maybe mine originated as a NAV and the dealer swapped it - I bought mine from BMW at 46,000 miles when BMW of NA forced the sales manager to sell it before it went off warranty... it was in GREAT condition when I bought it all but the CD changer had been taken out and replaced with the single disc in dash unit.. dunno
