Door Lock Question (Rear Left Door Stuck Shut)
From what I gather, the double lock portion of my left rear door lock actuator is dying. Or, did the system just get confused due to the battery condition below. Looking for confirmation. Symptoms/conditions: 1. Never had an issue until recently when the truck has been seeing extremely dead battery cycles (3v on one instance ) due to vestigial EHCII module draw. 2. Left rear door would not open from inside or outside handles. 3. Key fob (or lock cylinder) will pop up/retract the door lock pin on top of the card 100% of the time. 4. Could hear cable being pulled when manipulating either handle. 5. Outside handle does not feel spongy and opens the door without being pulled up excessively far/hard. I tried the double lock emergency egress procedure and could hear the locks pop but still could not use inside/outside handle to open. Worried child lock was engaged as we used to haul the kids in Red. Tried that procedure a couple of times. No luck. Then, figured I'd use the key in the door lock cylinder to lock/unlock repeatedly and feel for any change while manipulating (just manipulating, nothing violent) the inside rear left door handle (windows are down obviously). After a short time I felt a "tug" and voila. Both inside and outside handles now function as they are supposed to. Visually verified child lock was not engaged (obviously as the inner handle ultimately opened the door). Only tried lock/unlock with fob a handful of times since but everything works as it should now. Was something just out of sync because of the battery situation? Or am I sitting on a time bomb of double lock actuator failure? I believe I remember seeing a coding to disable double lock from single press of FOB? Can anyone confirm? Will look into that. As always thanks all.

sounds like your double lock motor is on the way out.
Usually using the emergency egress method will get the double lock unlocked while it's still intermittent. If the lock button pops up I think it's something else though as the lever that allows the unlock latch to engage is simply removed from activation when the door is double locked. Almost sounds like a defect in the child lock mechanism. (if the door lock button pops up and outside handle will unlatch the door than that would confirm). On numerous occasions when somebody got the doubled lock out of sync and then used the emergency egress to get it working again, it had stayed working, but I would refurbish any actuator where this happens as the only logical conclusion is the double lock motor has failed.
