Expansion Tank Popping

Hello!

I am at my whits end.
Picked up a project 3.0 that had some cooling issues.
Replaced the following;
- radiator
- expansion tank
- water pump
- thermostat
- expansion tank mounting plate thing
- hoses

Issue:
I cannot get the expansion tank to stop popping out of the two connections at the bottom!
Fill up the system, bleed out the air. Vehicle will idle and I start to get heat.
As soon as I give it some gas it will force the expansion tank to pop up and leak out fluid.

Any ideas? I've run out of things to replace...

Almost sounds like the system is being over pressured. If you leave the cap off as it heats up what happens?

Do you know the car’s history any chance your getting exhaust gas into the cooling system?

What brand expansion tank? What brand hoses?

If not faulty parts time to get coolant test strips. They'll tell you if you have a blown head gasket.

I had almost the same issue with the lower hose. Turns out that the oring and the beveled collar can be out of place inside the hose and allows turbidity at the clamp pushing the hose off and when it pops off the oring and collar shoot out which lets the cycle repeat again.

Check inside the hose and make sure thise two pieces are still there and if you leave the spring collett down and can't push the hose into locked position (too stiff) then they're out of position. I was never able to reseat them and had to get a new hose, of course I luckily found my oring on the cross brace when I opened the hood....

Zero history unfortunately.
If I leave the cap off it'll work okay and heat up, happens when I close the system. More and more feeling like head gasket...

That stinks! As CW said above, run over to tour local auto parts shop and grab some test strips to check for exhaust gas in the coolant. Hate to say that’s it, I REALLY HOPED it might have been the o-ring as EOD suggested....

Keep us posted

Without pressure the turbidity isn't enough to pop it off so don't give up on that possibility!
