You can go genuine or an ebay aftermarket or just rebuild your current one

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...53-64128374995

https://www.ebay.com/itm/152693714524

There are also rebuild kits with new plungers as well but I think the rubber seals are the main point of failure due to their log term exposure to antifreeze.

As mentioned in the other thread, check your coolant level first. LoL, sometimes we skip over the most obvious. But I guess if you were losing coolant it would indicate another problem.

My coolant level is full and constant. Most of the cooling system has been replaced and it has about 97,000 miles. I just bought a new OEM heater valve so we'll see if that works. If not then I'll go the route of heater core temps etc.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but how is your Aux water pump that is located behind the driver headlight? I think that plays into the heating as well? #13

I would have brought up the aux pump but the symptoms are backwards. When aux pump doesn't work you won't get heat below about 1800 rpm.

Same exact issue. My heater control valve is clicking all the time. Maybe I will try that first then the thermostat

The valve is supposed to click all.the time once it gets to steady state.

Since two valves, it will often make a lub dub lub dub lub dub like a great beat. That said it has to actually open not just click to function.

What’s the status of the red/blue selector dial? Is it set on red?

Glad to see Alpine buy an OEM valve....Avoid the cheap aftermarket valves on Ebay- they often have a shiny, or chrome-like exterior..some of them fail within months...FCPEuro is probably okay... I just replaced aftermarket valves with OEM valves I rebuilt myself...much better.

I bought a used genuine BMW heater valve from eBay just for the sake of using the rebuild kit I've had laying around for a while now. By the eBay pictures, It does look to be in really good shape though...
