I use both as well for my vehicles. I will always use FCP Euro as my source for Genuine BMW replacement parts. I have tried OEM supplied parts in the past with disappointing results so now it is always spending a little more and settling on nothing less than Genuine BMW parts on items that matter.
I use ECS Tuning as well depending on the cost variance between the two. It almost always comes down to money. My experience with both of them has been positive but I have seen longer delays in the shipping process with ECS Tuning. It is usually 2 days before I get an email saying my order has been processed and shipped. Never more than 12 hours from FCP Euro.

I can't remember where we bought the parts but German auto solutions for the timing kit it's awesome. Just be gentle on the vanos dial tool they use very hard steel pins and they are brittle I broke them off.
Start a thread when you start for tips I have a few. I did this job twice about 3 years ago. I did mostly solo but highly recommend a second set of eyes when doing the actual timing. I had one reluctor plate wrong at first and once during the 720° chain tightening procedure one of the left tightening nuts on an intake reluctor self tightened and caused the intake cam to stop moving. Second set of eyes caught it before something broke.

FCP is just awesome. I find their prices often times more competitive (& if a bit extra factor in their lifetime guarantee). If in stock, shipping to NYC is 1 day AND free (over $50 of course)!

U totally agree on FCP. In this instance I really wanted to go with them, but the ECS chain kit had many more pieces for less $ than theirs. I am in MA, so I always get stuff within 2 days as well. Funny thing is, I kind of threatened ECS yesterday that if I didn't see my stuff this week, I was going to cancel the order and go elsewhere. Guess who got a "your item has shipped" this morning......
Andrew, I already have the timing tools from GAS-they are the best. Looking forward to getting everything buttoned back up and this beast on the road. I have only driven it maybe 10 miles since buying it, so want to fix that!
