4.6is compression numbers

What are the values to determine "good" compression on the M62 4.6? The previous owner did a compression test and the values were around 150.

you are looking for numbers around 150 with cyl to cyl +- a few PSI. It is the ones way off that is the worry. not so much as "how high are they"

okay cool. I drove the car back from BC to Reno not knowing the oil pickup was full of old timing guide debris and I pray that no damage was done to the motor. It runs great and has 152-155 compression on all cylinders still. I just get paranoid.

Unless you were at 6,000 RPM the whole way you should be good.

What unit of measure is the gauge?

Just like the speedometer on cars can be KPH or MPH, the reading will be diifferent.

Also, old school compression test was with carburetor throttle plates had to be wide open. Does one open the throttle body on the modern cars to do a test??

Throttle body on newer cars is electronically controlled.

https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...thread-26.html

Bimmerbreaker talked about having some oil starvation issues on his M62 that may have caused the rod bearings to fail.

He mentioned "..sustained high-RPM driving uphill to Flagstaff " and bits of guide pcs as possible causes.
