DSP aftermarket head unit question

My 2004 4.8 has DSP and navigation and the screen is frozen and f-ed up so i can’t have music. I have been looking at aftermarket units specifically for e53s and have been reading everything I can on these units. My problem is that I have DSP and as I understand it I will need an I-Bus interface? I can’t find said interface anywhere for sale. Do I need it? Is it better to wire everything up from scratch and just get whatever headunit and some amps? I’m more than capable of that type of install but I’d prefer something a bit easier. I just want music! For the love of god!

Thanks for the link but I have already been down that path. And it’s a hard dead end(see my link).

Can't go wrong with Avin-avant-4 which comes with I-Bus interface, and yes, you'll need it for your DSP vehicle.

I have it on my 2005 4.4 with DSP. I recently added wifi hotspot from tmobile (connects to the OBD port) as I got tired of always teethering to my iphone. Iphone doesn't have automatic connection to android devices - have to open the Personal Hot Spot tab in settings. The tmobile hotspot autoconnects to the avin unit. My wife is jealous my 2005 X5 has more multimedia features than her 2016 X6M .

Careful with that OBD connection. I have a GPS device from my insurance company connected to the OBD II port and if I don't drive the car monthly, the battery can discharge to a state that t needs a jump just to start the engine. The GPS device is always on so that I can locate my car with an App.

Yeah the German site is out of stock, but the EU site still has stock on hand. Hopefully you'll find one stereo you like with it included but if not go piecemeal and put together what suits your X5.

Hmm, thanks for the heads up. I know for sure my X6M vehicle location feature doesn't drain the battery - been away for more than a month a couple of times. I'll do a test on the X5 to determine how much power SyncUpDrive draws.

From the EU site I hit “buy now” and it redirects me to a page that says it’s no longer available. My other problem is the fact that since my unit has never worked since I bought my x, I don’t know if anything audio related works. I’d hate to buy a $700 Dynavin unit only to find that the DSP amp or godforbid something else is inoperable. For now, the only unit I can find that is DSP compatible out of the box without that i bus interface is the Dynavin. This is a decision/gamble that I’ll have to figure out but I really do appreciate everyone’s input on the matter. It’s $700 for a Dynavin or a bit more for an entire soundsystem overhaul. The gamble is the $700 Dynavin then a soundsystem overhaul after I find something not repairable.
