No I haven't taken anything apart, overall it's really not that important. More of a curiosity since all my other BMWs aren't shy about showing off their amber light.

When I look at the cluster I can't even see the "cutout" where the light would shine through. I can make out the rest of them but no SES or CEL to be seen.

Even if the led was removed or someone used tape to cover it I should be able to notice where it used to live

Fresh transfer case fluid for the Bastard

The straw on these containers is pretty cool but I can never get it positioned in a way to get more than half of the fluid out but this meat syringe works great.

As expected the old fluid was long overdue and it had a little bling in there but nothing I haven't seen before.

If you have a Foxwell you can do the "clockwork" test and there won't be any doubts about lights! It makes a fireworks display of every light you don't want to see....

Conversely it's every light I have seen in the White Witch...

I did a cluster check and there is definitely no CEL or SES light that comes on

Make sure to reset your TC clutches after changing the fluid.

I've only got through five pages so far, but I have a few thoughts on why you don't have a CEL.

It's called the EU2 flash. I've seen this done by people before - they flash the Euro 2 tune, which removes the CEL-on conditions for all emissions-related errors. Unfortunately, it also removes the CEL-on condition for... well, everything.

Another thing that I thought of was related to your misfire. In my X5, I had many of the same issues - it would be intermittent, even after changing the plugs and coils.

I eventually chased it down to the DME itself. Seems there is not a very good weather seal around the DME box. Once I replaced that (any used MS43 DME will do, then you can eliminate the EWS) it was fine again.
