Turn signal lights not working on dash

Hey guys I need your help! My signal lights are not working in the dash and there is no clicking sound. They work fine outside. I have noticed that the lock/unlock button and the emergency light buttons are not working either. Could this issue be related? Any idea where to start troubleshooting? Fuses seem to be ok. Also everything else seems to be working fine. Radio, A/C, lights, mirrors etc.

Thanks a lot!

Model? Model year? Build date?

After market lights or bulbs...regular incandescent bulbs or LED upgrades?

Help us help you better...remember to give us some details about the vehicle you're asking about. Not all E53s are exactly the same from beginning to end of production (2000-2006).

It's a 2004 X5 3.0i, everything stock; no modifications at all(not sure if previous owner did anything, but as far as i can see, everything seems to be stock)
So the symptoms are pretty much:
signal lights don't work in dash(work outside)
fog lights, high beam etc are not indicated either
reverse lights don't work
emergency lights button doesn't work(not sure if these are related)
lock/unlock button doesn't work(not sure if this is related)

what i did so far:
checked all other electrical things in the car; everything seems to be working fine; radio, a/c, steering wheel functions; seat heaters, lights, windows
disconnected the battery for about 30-45 minutes
checked the fuses

I am beginning to think i might have a short somewhere

Do you know how to do instrument cluster TEST 2? If so, do it and see if some of the lights you mention light up when you test the functions of the instrument cluster's instrumentation.

If the cluster lights illuminate...then you can rule out the cluster itself.

If you don't know how to do TEST 2...you can do a quick search on YouTube. Look for instruction by searching using the type of cluster you have (high or low). If you don't know if you have the high or low cluster...if you have a 20 digit alpha/numeric display...then you have the high cluster. If you have the graphic display (for check control warnings)...then you have the low (base) cluster.

There's a difference in how to initiate TEST 2 because the high cluster has TWO buttons (one on left side & one on right side). The low cluster only has ONE button...which is on the left side:

Did the test...the lights are working fine. I also did a reset. Doesn't seem to be a cluster issue.
I am thinking more and more about a short somewhere. Bad thing is that I don't think I have the knowledge to find it

Given that others have found shorted wires in the area under the handbrake lever and your hazard light switch and central lock switch don't work, try pulling up the leather boot around the handbrake lever and use a flashlight (I'd use a torch! ) to have a look at the wiring underneath the centre console....

Checked...and the hazard lights and central lock weren't working because of the switch...fixed that one and still no signal lights.
I looked in the console as much as I could but I couldn't see much.
What else could I test?

I tested something else...I remove a light bulb....and it's not indicating that I have a light bulb burned.
So at this point everything is working except signal light indicator, reverse lights, fog lights/high beam indicator and the warning when a bulb goes out.
Is it possible that something might be disabled?

You need to have the cluster memory scanned for LKM fault codes. You'll need the software/hardware package or $tealer/indy with the equipment or a scanner capable of performing a complete electronic systems check. This is way beyond the usual OBD II scanners out there.
When our LKM failed no gauge indicator/warning lights was one of the symptoms.
