pano roof, again!

Hey everyone. My pano roof broke a long time ago and I finally mustered enough courage to replace it today. I didn't buy the repair kit because I'm by myself and of all the videos I watched, i don't think I can figure it out in a timely enough manner.

Anyway, I am writing because I would like help finding the seals I need to replace! I cannot figure out which ones I need.

Mine was "broken" when I bought my 04' X5. Found this on Youtube and it fixed it. I have a fully functioning pano minus the rear "vent" feature.

Miloh, are you talking about the rubber trim along the sunroof?

I’m prepping for this as well. An ‘04 I bought has the leading edge of rubber on the rear glass pulled off (and repeatedly jamming) on both sides, but still adhered in the center. It *looks* like #54137127565 from my research, but REALOEM is somehow vague about what exists for this rubber strip. My order for this part ships out on the 14th and I will report back with IF that indeed is the leading-edge rubber. What I need buffers between the two glass panels when closed.

I got mine at europarts. Only $80 and you have to trim it in order to fit

I’d go to the junkyards and find a whole cassette and replace. Forgot rebuilding. Installing is not the hard and you can do it yourself. You do look like a dying cockroach while you’re putting it in, but it gets the job done.

There is a MUCH simpler and non destructive way to fix this. Just remove the two torx screws on the sides of the rear glass mechanism. Done in 30 seconds.

That's how I replaced the entire cassette on my E39. It was a very comical look but fortunately no one was around to laugh away . It'd spent quite a bit on parts trying to fix the sunroof. I'm glad I replaced the cassette including the glass. There was someone parting out their E39 and I scored the sunroof cassette intact, for like $80.
