The module is known as I01113 (Diversity) on TIS - try a search for that.

In your first image, the larger black coax (red circle) at the top of the module is X01116 - it feeds the radio antenna signals (FM1/FM2/AM and FM3) to the radio (N9).

The next connector down (not circled), a small black coax, is X01111 and is the antenna feed from N8 going to module I01113.

Next one down (white circle), white wire, brown connector, is X424, from the radio (activation signal/power?)

At the top edge of the I01113 unit is another antenna connection (FM3) - X01113 (from the side window).

So yeah, on the face of it, as long as N8 has power and functions correctly, the FZV should work - but there will be no antenna signals for the radio.

Thank you, I was looking at the wrong diagram (Japanese version or smth). I found it in tis now.

Ok so the first coaxial cable, circled in red, is going to N9 (radio), which is gone anyway. It's been removed from the car, so that cable cannot do anything. I don't care that I don't have a radio, I don't need it.
I unscrewed this cable completely now.

The next connector down, it's not circled because this one is not cut. It's going under the headliner. It's the connector that's going alongside it, down from the headliner, which is cut.

Now if the white connector is activation for the radio, I'm removing it as well since I don't have the thing lol

The X01113 connector

So if N8 antenna amplifier is responsible for the remote unlock, I'm kinda puzzled.

I checked the pinout on X1143

I measured voltage on pin #3, white and yellow wire, with the car completely off.

I'm getting 10.75 volts

I meant to say LTW "mod," phone fudged it for me.

CSL was a reference to the lightweight version of the E46 M3. You're pulling out so much wiring and extra electronics it'll start to add up.

Good luck finding the offending wire(s). Wonder if a scan would tell you anything? Maybe an error could point you to a specific aerial or power wire that got cut?

I'll try scanning tomorrow. Maybe QSilver7 will chime in with some ideas. I'm researching about the whole FZV - central locking system to see what components it's made of. I can then test/check each individual component.

In one of his posts I read the following:
They both (FZV & DWA) receive an RF SIGNAL transmitted from the key to the aerial in the left rear window...which then goes to a receiver above the tailgate...which then ends up being sent to the GM...which then sends data to the appropriate system (FZV & DWA) to lock/unlock and arm/disarm the vehicle
https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/r...orking.882438/
So I'm not sure if I01113 (Diversity) gets the signal first and sends it to N8 which then sends it to the GM

This is kinda tricky because this system in intertwined with alarm and radio, so for a total newb like me it's hard to make sense how all these components are working and which ones are interdependent and which ones aren't.

This picture make it seem that the signal from the key is received by N8, which then sends it to I01113, which send it to the General module, which then unlocks or locks the doors.
(JUST DID SOME RESEARCH AND REALIZED THIS PICTURE IS FOR E70 WHERE THE MODULE PLACE.ENT AND OPERARION IS DIFFERENT)

Maybe I cut the wire going from I01113 to the general module.

On the other hand, N8 goes directly to the general module

It looks likely this is the case - the antenna is in the side window and connects to I01113 (Diversity Module), which then feeds to the N8 (Antenna Amplifier), which then passes on to A1 (General Module).

It also seem likley that the I0113 (Diversity Module) gets it's power from N9, the factory radio (or an aftermarket head unit using the factory wiring) - this line is from the TIS...

"The diversity amplifier only operates in FM mode and is powered by the radio via an internal conductor of the intermediate frequency cable (IF cable)."

I'm pretty sure the IF cable is X424 - the smaller white cable with the brown connector that you have cut - so that has probably disabled the I01113 (Diversity Module).

This pin-out diagram for the factory radio loom/connector backs up what I surmised above... that the radio powers the I01113 Diversity module. X424 runs to pin 13 on X18126. This diagram states that pin 13 on X18126 is "12v Ant Out".

You could try cautiously applying 12v to the white wire on the I01113 Diversity module X424 and see if the remote locking works.

Unfortunately that didn't help.

Here's basically the full layout.

I01113 Diversity module has 4 connections in total.

X01113 connects directly to the window

Nothing to worry about here

Next is coaxial cable X01116. It connects to X01114 on the radio.

It goes to the radio, which I don't have. I think this wire is only for the signal, so it wouldn't matter anyway.

3rd connector on Diversity module is X01111.

This one is not cut. It connects to X01110 on the radio amplifier.

Then like you said there's the last one, X424

It goes from the Diversity module to the radio plug, X18126

That's it for the Diversity module.

Now I have doubts the Diversity module is responsible for the remote key.

Looking at the wiring schematic, Diversity module is kinda apart from everything else

Couple more things.

I checked for continuity between X01110 and X01111, it's fine.

I found this video
https://youtu.be/WA4hESNVU_8
And checked the wires again on connector X1143
With the connector unplugged, I get 10.6 volts on yellow and white wire and 11.2 volts or red and black wire.
Pressing keys on the remote while measuring voltage does absolutely nothing.
The guy in the video said that the middle wire is ground.
So I checked resistance between the middle wire and a ground point in a car and it wasn't 0. So I spliced the middle wire and added a ground wire to it but still nothing happened.

I don't know about the E53, but when I repaired my E61's keyless entry system after purchase, the diversity antenna was definitely integral. Had to repair (alcohol cleaning and then contact cleaner after reflow of a couple solder joints) the diversity antenna inside the upper hatch before I could get keyless working again.

Don't know if the diversity "module" performs the same as the diversity "antenna" across the different chassis. But figured I'd mention it.

Thanks Crystalworks.

My head is overheating lol. I found this website and emailed the owner to see if he has any ideas
https://www.bmwgm5.com/FZV_Antenna_Amp.htm

His response: The remote keyless only cares about N8.

Also as far as I remember, I didn't have the radio in the car when the remote key was working fine.

I'm really curious and determined to figure this one out now.

Went with BMW scanner and got these errors

Cleared the errors. Closed all doors and trunk.
Reinitialized the key (on-off, take key our, holding "unlock" click three times "lock". Boom it worked!

Now a couple of thing to whoever stumbles upon this thread to diagnose similar issues.

I01113 Diversity module has nothing to do this remote locking/unlocking. I disconnected all 4 wires and the locking unlocking from remote works. In fact I removed it completely from the car as I don't need it at all.

For the key to work, all you need is the N8 antenna amplifier and proper voltage at connector X1143.

I was getting about 11 volts on pin 3 and 11.8 volts on pin 1.
I've been told by a couple of people that pin 3 should have 5 volts, including this apparent antenna guru who runs with website https://www.bmwgm5.com/FZV_Antenna_Amp.htm
Well maybe in e38, 39 or e46 but in E53, it's around 12 volts, as in the video I posted.
As long as you have those voltages, it means you're getting 10-12 volts on pin 1 to power the antenna, so no need to even check fuse F86.
And as long as you're getting 10-12 volts on pin 3, the power is being sent out to the general module.

The mystery is fully resolved for me!

Now all doors except front passenger open and close with the remote. Next quest if to look into that issue
