Not a usual culprit. Are you sure it's not leaking from top of the tank opening (you can see it under rear seat) after fuel pump renewal?

Thanks for the replies. I tried to upload a pic, but the file's too big. I'll take another in the morning and hopefully you'll see what I mean!

Here is the problem. The leak is clearly coming from around the area between the fitting and the tank - but it looks to me as if the fitting is a repair? Since there is damage to the plastic wheelarch trim near to the fuel tank inlet, I think it is possible that the car was incorrectly jacked up in the past which caused damage to the inlet. Thus someone has attempted to replace the inlet with a plumbing(?) fitting. So what I really need to know, does this look as BMW originally produced the tank - or has it been "got at"?

I've answered my own question. It IS some sort of plumbing fitting and the "repairer" took the time to seal it with lead - so no chance of tightening or removing it without potentially blowing myself up .
I'm going to try JB weld, but don't anticipate success.......... I've tried looking everywhere for the procedure of removing/installing a fuel tank, but cannot find anything. Can someone point me in the right direction please? |

The Bentley manual has detailed instructions. For sure get a replacement tank and don't try to fix that one!
