Its blown me away as I have absolutely no idea where it came from. I've had the car for years and its never happened....Then suddenly out of nowhere I start the car one evening and its got the "new" bmw gong on start up lol. I spent a little while trying to figure out where its coming from looking through ibus settings and the settings for my xtrons (thinking it may have got an update) but I cant find anything obvious at all.
May be it's xtrons thing? I have avin4.

If its not an ibus thing, its gotta be an xtrons thing. I will take a bit more time to go through all the xtrons settings and see if I can find it when the wife gets home with the car this afternoon.

It does have to be XTrons- and maybe even the iBus app that is causing it. It was recently updated. Also, were it iBus only, it would sound not through the speakers, but through the single speaker under the dash whether the radio was powered or not.

I have used 4 Xtrons units and have never seen an OTA update for them. Since the iBus app recently updated, and can be told to check for and DL new updates, I suspect like X5Only that the sound at least runs through the Xtrons into the car speakers.

On the iBus app, you can set a start up message for the MID. I have mine set up as a greeting. I believe you can ask the app to accompany this message with an audible gong as well. I do not use this feature.

Edit:

I have attached two places that I found in a quick review of the iBus App for gongs. Either of these two options if so configured would render the sound you hear:

So have you looked at these or other settings yet?

I updated the latest update on the IBUS last week. Mine doesn't do this. Thinking it may be a Xtrons thing. I have an Avin.

Same here, updated my iBus app to the latest version today. No different E90 gong.

It's not Xtrons. Xtrons do not get OTA updates. BTW, it's my supposition not that an update to either the radio or an app would magically make a gong happen. My position is that since XTrons does NOT update OTA, no changes would have happened due to an update on XTrons- taking the brand of the radio out of consideration for an update causing this gong. The radios are essentially the same Android 10 OS whether they are Secaine, Xtrons, Eonon, Avin, etc. The differences are primarily support rather than OS fine tuning (like a gong). There's just not enough money in it for the manufacturers to differentiate like that.

My bet is that someone changed the settings in the iBus app and the OP didn't realize it. Of course, we haven't seen him for a minute. I will try to replicate the gong and post a video later.

Note in the video that the gong sounds at the moment after the iBus app starts up, while the Xtrons has been online well before. That is the exact moment the welcome message and gong come up on the MID. If it's not the iBus app, it's another Android app on the radio that is causing this sound. It's most likely one that gongs on start up and is listed as one of the two auto starts in the iBus app.

In closer review of the video, he has two apps that auto start. One is a music/sound player that starts up and immediately accompanies the gong immediately before Spotify auto starts. If it is not the start up/message gong in the iBus app, we take that app out of the startup rotation and my bet is we have no new gong.

Conversely, of course, for those folks who'd like this new 'signature gong' to be a part of their experience, DL the gong sound file, set the path to the sound as one of the two 'apps' that plays on startup with iBus and the sound player will launch, play the sound, and BOOM. You'll have a cool gong, too.

Great analysis, PropellerHead! Yeah, evidently coming from a startup app. I spent a fair amount of time last evening looking around in the Ibus app for a possible root cause and came up naught. Anyone know where to DL the gong sound file?
