Yep, that's pretty much what I'm expecting. The OFHG was hard as a rock when I pulled it out. Tried to bend it and it just snapped.

Finally was able to get my pan gasket changed over the long weekend. My gasket looked the same. Rubber hard as plastic and crumbled the same. Did a time lapse video from my garage camera. Wish it only takes this long! Total about 3 1/2 days at about 7 hours a day.

Yeah that's a big job for sure. Loved seeing the Mrs and the dog out there providing emotional support.

Three dogs, but the only one I got any support one was the female beagle. I was laying on the creeper when she came out and licked me all over the face. I think she thought there was something wrong with me.

Thanks. Huge job and we had very hot weather that weekend to make it even more enjoyable. But, no oil on the garage floor and coating the bottom of the truck is was worth it.

Use Form A Gasket on both sides. Especially on corners, splits, and bolt areas. Here's an example from a Benz C240 valve cover I fixed. I used a light layer all the way around. Even a little to hold the valve cover gasket in place. The gasket won't leak unless the cover gets loose or it's seriously blown out. On really difficult gaskets, I loosen up the part and dab the sealing surface and tighten the part back down.

eh. my experience with lots of sealer on a gasket is that it means you have essentially three gaskets that can fail down the line. i'd be more interested in losing the gasket entirely than that.
