X5 hitch - ID
It's about 90 miles from me. If it's stock, I'll go grab it and a few other parts. The harness seems to be missing. I can take a lithium power booster to open the rear hatch and tailgate. Does the cover go over the hitch to hide it while not in use?

Looks way too small, not the oem hitch at all. The cover does not fit over the oem hitch because it sticks out more.

hitch unlike common aftermarket hitches on Etrailer
My 2001 X5 has an aftermarket Draw-Tite hitch installed, and it looks unlike the one shown by the OP. It sticks out past the bumper fascia, so it could not utilize the "cover" to hide it.
Mine came off Ebay, installed by the previous owner, but it is the same as the hitch on Etrailer. There's a similar one by Curt on Etrailer, too. Both of those hitches have a prominent brace underneath, which isn't obvious on the junkyard photo. Perhaps it's a custom-made hitch?
