Fuel Leak

Today while driving the engine cut out on my 2000 X5 4.4i, and as I opened the door to get out, there was a strong smell of fuel.
Fuel was leaking out from the bottom of the car under the engine, and when I opened the hood there was fuel everywhere on the right side of the engine (facing the back of the car).

In this photo I have circled the part of the fuel line where the fuel seemed to come from.

My question is do I just push the fuel pipe back together? How does this weird fitting work, as I really dont want it to leak again, the fire risk is huge!

Sorry to resurrect a very old thread but I've had exactly the same happen to my 4.8is, fuel was pissing out over the engine!

Did you just reconnect the two parts or did it require new parts ?
