Folding mirror error

Yesterday, I removed the mirror covers. Sure enough, both micro switch levers were off. Carefully, I put them back on and squeeze the swivel points. One lever looks longer than the other. Are metal levers n the correct orientation? After replacing them, the mirrors fold and extend back out.

You have the levers on the wrong way around, the button needs to be under the straight part of the lever.

Oh. They connect on the other side.

Ok, the problem is worse now. Only the passenger side folds. Sometimes it stays. Some times it doesn't. The driver side doesn't do nothing. After the first time, I checked the spring. It fell off, so I put it on again. Nothing.

For now, it will have to wait for troubleshooting. The driver side door latch broke. A new mechanism is on order from FCP. It will arrive on Wed.

I just went down to the parking garage (which is boiling hot and humid right now) to check the folding apparatus and maybe figure out why the 'folded out' position is so poorly defined and sloppy, to find that that the workshop guy has silicone glued it shut as some tabs were missing.

To be continued....

Check the switches are operating correctly once the metal lever is re-attached - it's easy to get these on incorrectly and the switch doesn't operate correctly.

I found the microswitches at this site....but they are gouging for them at $35 each...so I may hunt for another supplier.

Should look like this when installed correctly...

Make sure the cover is also fitted correctly - an incorrectly cover can lead to the same problem.

The wife and kids are off on holiday tomorrow so it's gonna get a proper sorting out this time - but the glued cover suggests it's not gonna be pleasant!

To everyone posting details with photos, THANK YOU!

We can do this!!

Nice pic wpoll. I'll check mine again later this week. I'll use small clamp or something to hold it in place for testing. I can do without folding mirrors. However, it drives me nuts when a feature doesn't work.

PalmSpringsE534.6: Wow, nice find! Please post if you find them somewhere else. Due to age and clip bending, it may be a good idea to replace them.
