Warm air from one a/c center vent?

My A/C is not cooling too wel: the air is blowing cool but not cold enough so I need to fix that.

However, yesterday the left center a/c vent was blowing warm air but the one immediately to the right of it was blowing cool air.

So I closed the left vent using the dial next to it and that took care of the warm air. The air coming from the other vents remained cool but not cold enough for my liking.

Anyway, I guess there are completely separate paths to each center vent?

BTW, the temperature dial between the vents is set to the 3 blue lines. The a/c controls on the console were set to "auto", 72 deg F (left and right), snow flake and recirculate were both ON.

I have not hooked it up to INPA yet, will do that tonight, but if you have any suggestions on where to start debugging the "not cold enough" issue, I'd appreciate the help!

thanks!

You probably have a bowden cable come off. It's an easy fix but a pain in the ass removing the dash.

I've had the different air vent temperatures on a couple of occasions and in both instances it was low refrigerant. Especially if the other vents don't seem as cool as they should ordinarily be; I suggest you check history and if it's a few years since a re-gas take a look at that as a possible option.

My understanding is you can get to a fair amount removing the mid controller (what people call the ratio) and HVAC controls no need to remove dash

I believe so too, but I really have a thing about possibly getting my dick skinner stuck in something...

That's why we are built with redundancy.

My A/C is cooling down to 44 degrees (outside temperature 95-100 degrees) at the center vent (measured with a thermometer stuck between the slats), which is acceptable, though higher than on my other vehicles. All the top vents blow cold air. I haven't got out the gauge set, yet, to verify pressures in the system; it's just been too hot to fiddle around underhood for me this week.

I've set my controls the same as jac did, but the center dial just turns so far, then retreats about an inch the other way. Is it supposed to click into place, or is it cable-controlled/limited, and is just releasing tension? If so, I don't want to snap the dial loose from the cable, so just how far does it need to turn? A close-up photo of the dial in the proper "max cold" position would be nice to see.
