I do agree the DWS sidewalls are softer than the PSAS3/4s. I like the compromise you get from the Extremecontac Sports but they have never lasted me longer than 24ish thousand miles which is comparable to the PSS. You're right, if you dont use up the PSS it will go bad on you which the Contis dont do. I cant speak to the LX or any other touring type tires, thinking on it i actually dont think I've ever owned a set of touring tires. It's always either been UHPs or ATs i currently have Aturos on my 4.6Is which came on it from the PO, they are surprisingly good but no comparison to the Extremecontact sports.

I went with these on recomendation from memeber here and really have no complaints.
When I bought them on Amazon a year ago, they were $160 a piece, now more expensive.
I've had them about a year / probably around 7k miles, quiet, responsive etc...really pleased.

I am a fan of Yokohama Tires in general, have ran them on multiple vehicles over the years. I'm fairly new to my X5 and the PO got the Yokohama Scorpion Verde All Season back in March 2014 in Phoenix at Discount for 212/ea. They lasted 7+ years and 20,000 miles in the Arizona heat (they didn't drive often). This is the set I need to replace soon. Considering I have only handled BlackPanther on these old tires, and have been happy with the ride, I am excited to get some fresh rubber on the open farm roads that sprinkle my commute. Discount has them for 202/ea and they are now the Plus II version.

Yokos get bad reviews for snow traction, though. We don’t get enough snow to justify another set of winter tires (the iX has blizzaks), but I don’t want them to suck.

Pirelli or Yokohama?

Well that's embarrassing, I totally butchered my post. I meant to say I am a fan of Yokohama and Pirelli Tires in general. The Scorpion Verde All Season I am rolling now are Pirelli's not Yoko's. I decided to go with the Pirelli Scorpion Strada All Season for my next set. They are 173 ea. here in Denver.

For the record, I went with the DWS06 Plus. They were the right choice.

I've had really excellent success with Yokohama tires, especially the 720 and now 740GTX. Comfortable and quiet ride with very good (not slalom level, but very good) handling, and excellent braking on wet surfaces. Additionally, I'm generally getting 50-55,000 miles on a set.

Not sure what model you're referring to.

For all seasons the ones bmw540san and I got, Geolandar X-CV, get good snow performance on Tire Rack reviews.

I have 20" 275/40. They don't handle as well as the General Grabber UHP set they replaced. They're much quieter and the ride is smoother.

I got my set in September 2020 for $643 installed, including sales tax.

https://xoutpost.com/1190562-post76.html

Sample Tire Rack reviews:

2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE400 4MATIC SUV
I have had these tires for 1 year now and have driven them in the summer and winter snow and they have performed great! These are much better tires than the Continental tires we took off the car! The wear and road noise is so much better too. Overall Great Tire !

2013 Audi Q7 3.0T Premium Plus

This car is pretty heavy, but the tires are quiet and roll great on the highway and are very sure-footed in the wet weather, snow, or ice on which we've driven them this year. Treadwear seems to be holding up well too. I'll probably put these on my other car (Explorer) when it's time to get new tires for it.

2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS450
Tire performs well, but difficult to compare these 20" beasts since I switched cars from a Volvo XC90 with Vredestein Pros. These tires performed well in light snow and ice and well in dry weather.

2014 Audi Q7 3.0 TDI Prestige
After 11k miles, through one of the worst midwestern winters that we've had in several years, these tires have been incredibly versatile. Light snow, deep snow, slush, and ice have not been a problem with these tires. Wet and dry traction are excellent. They are quiet and provide a comfortable ride, and after 11k miles are showing very little tread wear. I'm calculating that we'll get 40k-50k miles out of them - on this car, that's saying a lot.
