Wax clearly does a good job of protection (pun intended).

Check gas cap. Clean or replace. Check purge valve to see if there is suction. If so, replace it.

I had to replace gas cap on both our M54. You can also often just refresh the o-ring by flipping it over and lubricating it

With threads like "STRING OF GOOD LUCK" you are lucky that is the worst that happened!

Touchless car washes don't truly remove "all" of the dirt and grime as there needs to be some kind of friction to do that. Car washes with the brushes will create micro scratches at least no matter how "clean" the brushes are.

Absolutely. Touchless washes aren't worth the $$$. Even with a good ceramic coating and waxing, all the dirt isn't coming off.

And yes, you will get microscratches. But not a whole lot more than just using your car day to day. Hell, stray cats do 1000000x (anyone know a good way to "get rid" of strays?) more damage to the paint on our vehicles than any amount of washing. A once a year polish takes care of all the microscratches.

If you never wax/polish your paint, then maybe after 5 years a tunnel wash could ruin your paint job. But even then I'd bet a good paint correction could bring it right back.

Camphor placed around the area will usually keep critters away.
