Emissions control Secondary Air pump would be my guess.
Look for a failing plastic hose.

I have the same problem on my x5 and found out it's the breather on my head cover gasket. Air pressure is building inside the engine that what makes a whirling sound and can only be heard when you come to a stop.

Check your DISA valve. M54 motors have a "chuffing" sound sometimes when you turn the car off.

does the chuffing sound indicate a bad DISA ?

A bad disa will present other problems with engine running rough. If it is not opening or not closing at the correct time the engine will act up. So I don’t have a reason to suspect Disa as engine is running normally

@Perrier, you might have to start doing some checking yourself to eliminate some things and provide some more information. The suggested recording might be helpful too.

I'm not familiar with the 3.0 so this may not apply, but I was getting a gurgling sound kind of like boiling water upon shutdown.
I found out the hard way that it was the vacuum booster starting to fail and when it did I lost my brakes a just the right moment to turn my seat into a traffic cone.....

If you have a vacuum booster you might want to give it a check.
