285 45 R19 Rear Tires are hard to get - is there another size?
285 45 R19 for the rear - seem only Pirelli is making them which brings them to a bit over $425usd/each. Is there another size for the rear I can use and still be ok? |

Plenty of manufacturers produce them but likely your local supply is short. Have you checked for other sources?

Yes, today I went to an independent dealer in my town, Discount Tire and Big O and they all told me the same. And even looking online I am getting the same answer unless I want brands I have never heard of.

Tirerack.com shows me 6 options in that size, though 2 of those are winter tires. $308-$390 per tire.

Probably one of the brands you have not heard of (I had not either), but 6.5 years and 30k miles ago, I put on a pair of these on the rear of my 3.0i E53:
Atturo AZ800 285/45R19 XL 111W BSW UTQG: 420AA. produced by Federal in Taiwan No complaints at all. Good snow traction. Look like they will last to 60k miles if I let them go that far.

Try Nitto tires. I love mine and since I drive on the surface of the sun surrounded by Ray Charles wannabes with less of an attention span than a goldfish, I can attest to their grip for stopping or chicanes at 120+

Right not much use for you but I had the same conundrum and setup and yes those tires aren't cheap especially as mine was chewing through em like hell....camber was all in range so on so forth! in the end i 'found' a set of 4 tires an rims exactly like the spare one in back, 236/65 r17, doesnt look as good sure but since then my woes are gone, even my uneven tire wear! dunno though if you source a size for the rear to be same as ones up front? be interesting to hear and know cos still got my 19" rims and if i can use the size of tire on em as you have up front maybe worth a try too
