So I changed the EWS Ring antenna as well and the dinging is still there. The dinging stops however when I unplug the ring antenna, also the keyless entry starts working when its unplugged. Problem is I can't start the car until I plug it back in. Wtf lol.

Any suggestions? I'm stuck here.

Did you buy the car like this ? Maybe someone installed a remote starter and put an EWS chip somewhere close by?

Nope, the chime and dinging just started randomly one day.. everything used to work just fine before.

Only thing I can think of is maybe I should purchase an OEM ignition switch? The one I bought was an aftermarket from URO Parts.

I doubt the ignition switch is the problem but with URO anything is possible! I originally suggested you replace the switch because contact cleaner is usually not a good fix for an ignition switch.

I thought for sure that it was a hidden EWS chip especially after I noticed you were in Toronto, Canadian Tire does exactly that with their remote starter installs.

Not likely truly "random" - we just haven't found the reason yet!

Dropped the keys perhaps? Maybe something is broken in the key circuit board - although I can't see what, since the EWS is working and it sounds like the key is still charging.

I can't imagine why they key would "latch" the key detection... but.

Do you have a second key to test with?

I called a locksmith to come take a look at it as well. I have two keys and he even cut me a new one. He replaced the chip in the keys and re programmed them. He told me that something in the lock cylinder could be broken, but couldn't give me an exact answer. He put the keys in the ignition and kept knocking it with a screwdriver...every 1 out of 20 times of pulling the key in and out the dinging stopped and the keyless entry would work. Now it just continuously beeps when the key is out.

Would replacing the lock cylinder make a difference?

I'm also not sure if the keys are charging since I am using the key with a new battery from the locksmith.

It would have been interesting to see if the car started with a key that didn't have a working EWS chip. So you are saying you are back to where you started ??

I had a look through some wiring diagrams but nothing is really clear (and I can't remember) as to if there is another switch for sensing the key or is it just the EWS ring ??

Maybe the ignition switch is not turning off properly and the EWS ring is a bit of a red herring ??

If it really is the EWS ring picking up a signal then you would think it has to be from a chip.

Do you have a scan tool? maybe that can monitor if there is a key present??

You might also try taking the bottom and top covers off just in case there is a chip hiding in there!

Charging doesn't matter for the EWS, only the remote functions.

What is an EWS chip? Is it that little black peice floating inside the key fob? I think all my keys have that inside.

Does anybody know who makes the oem ignition switch? Is it febi? I'm going to order a new one and try.

Febi should be fine, I think that's what I used when I did mine. Have a really good look at the connector contacts when you are replacing the switch.

I was reminded by a post by EODguy in another thread that I had some pretty strange stuff going on when I had the '"shorted wire at the console cover hinge" thing going on, I can't remember if chimes were included but another thing to check
