fron't cv boots dry rot 18 months after being replaced?
I have crazing-cracks towards the larger end of fron't cv bellows and actually right next to where the OETIKER clips secure the boot to the shaft...not gone yet but will go....it seems no matter what I do they perish. I lubed them up with silicon spray last time .. this has protected the flexing surfaces of the bellows, but not the end as mentioned above. Did read someone applied some sort of glue rubber glue or even gorilla tape as an emergency measure to keep all the lubricant in....

You might be best off to get OE BMW boots, GKN might be good too but not the same as what's in the OE BMW box, at least that's what I found probably 5 or 6 years ago, it might not hold true any more the way things change. The OE boots might come with the really heavy duty clamps that you probably won't be able to compress so have some alternate clamps ready if you go that route.

The other thing to watch for is that there is an "A" and "B" axle which have different boot part numbers, one of them uses the harder plastic boot which lasts much longer. I switched to the plastic and use a hose clamp on the axle end of the boot because it's a bit too big on the wrong axle.

Löbro (part of the same consortium) is also OEM manufacturer. But I would still go with the original parts. They are not that expensive.

I'm in the Southwest in the US, where it's hot and dry. I replaced my driver's side CV boot in 2019, when my 04 was almost 16 years old.
Now, it's time to do the passenger side. I used GKN and plan to use that brand again. Mine is low miles, coming up on 45k, and garage kept. |
