Interior Door Handle - works a couple of times then pops off

So since I replaced the outer door handle carrier, the interior handle has popped off the inner door handle cable twice now.

First I thought it was because the plastic clip behind the door pull was missing. I ordered a new plastic clip for each door (knowing at some point i'll probably need them).

I installed the new clip on the driver door, the interior door handle seemed to be working. It lasted about 3 days and now the interior door handle is floppy again.

When I re-installed the door panel, the cable end popped onto the door handle without much problem. I made sure that little locking tab was secure.

The question is now should I order a new cable and inner door handle? or is there a mod other than superglue to keep these parts from pulling apart?

Its raining for the next 4 days, so I have a window to get parts here before taking the door panel off. Whats the best path forward? I'd like to fix it the right way and not have to keep taking that door panel off. That silly little light that attaches to the door handle is a PITA!

I assume it's the plastic end that fits over the ball on the latch? Then squeeze it a bit with a pair of pliers to distort the hole a bit and then squeeze it on to the ball with the pliers, you should hear/feel a nice solid click when it goes on.

It's this cable on the inner door handle. Right now the only way to open the door from the driver seat is to roll down the window and open it with the outside door handle.

when I snapped this onto the inner door handle, it seemed like it was in the little groove and the locking tab was resting where it should be.

OH sorry totally wrong then. That shouldn't be a problem unless maybe that lock tab is bent or something is broken ??

Yeah, it seemed to be in the right place... maybe I should just order both parts for when I open that panel up again...

It seemed to me that part kinda of snaps on while the door latch is closed... unless I missed something critical to its operation...

Thanks for trying!

You need to make sure the front part is engaged before you click the back part in.

Then maybe that’s the issue, that the front wasn’t clipped in good enough. I know the back was. I’d think it wouldn’t work at all if it wasn’t clipped in good. But stranger things have happened 🤣

I’ll check it out once the rains have stopped.

Thanks!

Before I could deal with the door panel, the idler pulley spun off and took the belts with it

I guess it's gonna be a work on the X5 weekend

New Belts and Pulleys installed. Now back to the door issue... The above posted part is definitely missing a rubber grommet or something, oh joy...
