I didn’t read through the entire thread, so I don’t know if you checked this inlet tube that connects to the IAC. https://youtu.be/vODpt5b2DsM?si=Noaye-Rx1bk1d2b8 this clip is in regards to the strong vacuum at the oil cap. I understand your frustration and disappointment though, I am in the same boat right now trying chasing down a P2179 code with mines. Haven’t been able to find any solid resolutions on YouTube or google.. I did see that one member here had the code and it was a faulty hengst fuel filter which I happen to have that brand filter on mines but it strikes me odd as to why it’s specific (or indicated to be) to Bank 2. Either way, I’m about to take it to the shop to get smoke tested and go from there.

@Ts0346 Maybe start a new thread asking for help with your problem if the shop can't resolve it. Please say what scan tool you are using and what the code description is.

Hi all, shop took three hours to troubleshoot and found that the brand new VEMO idle air control valve was faulty. They smoke tested and found some minor vacuum leaks but the IAC was the problem. I didn't get the whole story about how they fixed the honking noise, will clarify tomorrow.
Fool me once, shame on you VEMO! Not buying their Chinese crap again.

This whole afternoon I've been wondering, why is there no procedure to test the IAC in the factory service manual? It doesn't even mention the idea of testing impedance or some other method of verifying that it is good.

It's not that uncommon for a new part to be faulty. The valve was probably sticky, nothing to do electrically, I think the service manual would have said to twist the valve (removed) in your hand and listen/feel it swing side to side to make sure it isn't sticky. That being said, if it's only a bit sticky then you probably would have needed some experience or a good valve to compare.
I think you are right, there was probably more to it like a vacuum leak and or something not assembled correctly but probably no parts were needed. Good that she's fixed though! and your ego should remain intact ![]() re: the sticky is why I asked if you used carb cleaner on the valve, I think you know but, for others that don't, carb cleaner will swell/ruin the o-ring seals in the IAC motor or throttle body and create exactly the problem you had.
