clonk and ding when putting in drive

Hi
Had a vibration at 40 mph on a right hand bend and when sitting in drive or park.
Driveshaft was shot.
Swapped out this morning.
But i have a clonk ding when i put it in drive or reverse, seems to be from
the center of the car.
The noise sounds like hitting on a prop shaft with a wrench.

Clonk and ding gone.

Still have the vibration at 40 mph on a right hand bend.
feels like the wheel is about to come off.
Every thing under the front has been changed.

Thank you all.

The usual culprit for shake on slight curve is the rearward front control arm. Confirm there is no play you maybe have a factory defect.

When I went though the same thing it ended up being the steering rack.

Have somebody turn the wheel left and right while engine is off and have your hand on the tie rod. When the rack gets worn you'll feel a click when the backlash catches up.

Do this test: on the top of the crown of the road eg on the center line of country highway or middle lane of freeway: slowly mate an s-curve where the steering wheel just barely goes left and right of straight (goal is for front wheels to flip from barely left to barely right repeatedly).

If the lower control arms have any looseness that will make the steering wheel wiggle when crossing center.

This test would not produce the wiggle when it was the steering rack only certain curves on certain roads.

Have you rotated tires? Maybe you have a slight cupping on a tire that's only affecting that type of turn?

Once I changed all my suspension parts mine only shook on certain curves of certain roads.

Recently I was trying to figure out which rear wheel bearing was going bad on wife's car. Was about to swap tires front to back when I discovered cupping on the rear tires. That's why I suggested check the tires. Maybe even rotate front to back and see if it changes things.

Also: slight toe in (bmw recommend like .15°) (using string alignment that is 1/16" over 24"). Helps with the front end wiggles at the long term cost of outer edge tire wear.
