Is there a newer version of INSTA etc around?
I have an older version of INSTA etc that only worked on an older windows version, and not having had a bimmer for a while haven't followed updates. I'm about to buy another bimmer and my laptop is a Windows 11 version and so far I haven't been able to make it work. Can anyone tell me if there is a version around that works on later operating systems? Thanks Appreciate it....

INPA or ISTA or both?

from another thread: https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...diagnosis.html, post #39: Quote:
As for installing ISTA, I tried installing it, but it was too big for my puny laptop, and would get tp 56% loaded, IIRC, than say that there wasn't enough memory available (no surprise there!). here's another post of mine, from anotheryet another thread https://xoutpost.com/1236259-post16.html I gave up after that, and could never find anyting that would work on my laptop (which I currently/mainly use as a video player, when the power goes out every other week, or sometimes many times in a month...I have 285 mostly old/bad Sc-Fi videos stored on a SD card dedicated to that laptop). My advice: try getting another (used) laptop, with Windows 10 or older, so you can more easily install the BMW diagnostic programs...and definitely make sure the laptop has at least 8GB Ram, preferably 16 GB.And, if you're not a computer expert, but a rank amateur like I am, then ask a friend or still with a handheld scantool, like I do.

Thanks for such a comprehensive reply! My software bundle originally included INPA, ISTA, SSS, TIS, Navcoder (demo), NcsExpert, WinKfp and a dongle configurator so it was quite a bit of fun to get working and needed an install code by the seller if I ever changed device (reversed over one laptop) so will do what I have to to make it work unless there are better (ie more modern) alternatives.... Does the Foxwell reset codes, make changes to settings? I've got an F150 and use forscan to play around a little...

Foxwells are easy to use, and a good supplement to more BMW-specific software

You can also buy other manufacturers' programming for hese scan-tools, to make them work for what-have-you. They're bidirectional, too, so you can activate and test various components. There may be other tools in their lineup that may have similar functions, but I don't know any specifics. I've reset many codes with mine, and rest adaptations and raise the idle speed, but haven't tried any other changes. For the money, these tools are very handy and useful, and many here carry theirs in the glove box.

must've jinxed myself
Quote:
Control of the Texas power grid was sold many years back to greedy types (hell, the board of ERCOT, which controls the grid, all lived out of state when everything went down during the "Great Texas Freeze", 3.5 years back), who never seem to fix the grid. Just ask those in Houston. Funny thing, our power goes off so often, you'd think there was major construction, fires, floods, something within 20 miles of my house, but 99% of the time, nothing. But, this time, I think it was a squirrel commiting suicide on the transformer safety mechanism near my house (I heard the pop). But I still had to rant, as our power goes off 100x more than it should.
