Wobbly tran heat exchanger after replacing orings.
https://imgur.com/a/DHAQiC2 https://imgur.com/a/6F7hnrX But unfortunately as seen in picture it keeps coming out, as you see the lower o ring is visible and it leaks from there I have a few questions 1- When i try to push the lower connector all the way in the upper connector can not go in (some pointy thing is blocking it) so am i supposed to push the lower connector more than upper one? So it looks crooked? Or do they both need to be pushed in same level? Currently each time it leaks it the only way it wont wobble is if push the lower connector more than upper one and the reconnect the clip and it holds it for a good 200 miles till it becomes wobbly again 2- I’m planning on to change the orings one more time, should i apply silicone paste to it again? The other time i did that because ppl said that but now im thinking because of silicone paste its probably been too slippery and thats why it comes out? |

I think you just didn't get it in all the way and when the system build pressure it pops open.
I had a similar problem with the reservoir where it was so tight I needed my entire body weight to get the o-ring seated!

Wobbly tran heat exchanger after replacing orings.
Unfortunately I no longer have the e53 or I'd take a picture.
I recall going through the same thing on a Volvo where I snapped one of the tension clips and had to get a new one. Did you find a YouTube video of the job? I can't imagine the part goes on not symmetrical.

Interesting the pull tab is top ? You pull to the top ? Maybe That could be the issue …for me the tab I put it back on the side
I wish I had video of showing where the pull tab is realoem is not clear either https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...01#17207500754 Last edited by shevin; 08-15-2024 at 10:21 PM. |

I'm thinking that with the lock off to the side only one side of it is engaging in the slot. It should be apparent if you have a look at the key slots I'll bet they run up and down

I had to guess the year. Did I miss which year? I looked up for 2001 I'm thinking they must have changed. That is from bmw TIS it's usually spot on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Corrected link.
Mine had the same issue after a coolant refresh. The problem is transmisson oil lines move causing the cooler to teeter. A temporary fix of using a large zip tie secured the lines from moving. Since the temp fix worked, I made a bracket to secure the lines better. OEM seals were used too. Install the main holding clip. Using the clutch fan spanner wrench, I was able to snap in the cooler. Secure the transmission lines after cooler installation.
