Standard Transmission clutch
Really enjoying my new 2003 X5 with 5 speed stick. Ihave a clutch question. I have never seen a hydraulic clutch system before. Always Fred Flintstone version. No assist. Anyway, old days we used to adjust the clutch so as to release just before full pedal extension. My clutch releases about 1/2 to 3/4 travel. Is that correct? Is there any adjustment needed or availability on this X5?

Self adjusting clutch, there is no adjustment you can do. The self adjustment mechanism is designed to keep the engagement point at the same position for the duration of the clutch's life. Most of mine engage nearer the top, maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the pedal being pressed in, it may need bleeding if it is engaging too low in the pedal travel.
The clutch also does not have "assist". It is just hydraulic - fluid is non compressible so serves to provide better actuation than a cable mechanism which can stretch over time and slacken during rapid engagement. |

You can't really change the engagement point, but check into the CDV delete and removing the return spring from the pedal. Sadly they do not make the ultimate clutch pedal for these cars, I have that on my f30 and it is a fantastic upgrade.

It will change how the pedal comes up. I didn't really like it but a lot of people do, personal preference. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=21_0153 Remove number 13 and bend the line over a bit so it goes in. That will eliminate the restriction in the line and make the pedal more directly actuate the fork as the fluid flows normally. This makes everything easier to drive, but you risk damaging the input shaft bearing if you do a bunch of really fast hard shifts.

Whatwhatwhat? I have a manual F30 too. Never did the CDV delete, tried the BMS pedal stop but removed it after awhile.

It's a metal pedal arm and it has nice brass bushings. Expensive, most people say it's not worth it but it was definitely one of the better things I did to the f30. The first drive was very noticeable. They say it doesn't fit E39, which is the e53 pedal pre/post LCI. Bummer. Maybe somebody makes some brass bushings or something but it'd be rather pointless with the plastic pedal. I'll look into this more.

There are brass bushings available that fit these pedal boxes. Those were a pretty universal part. Have them on many of cars I think it improves the feel. I do them as a "while I'm in there" upgrade but not sure Id take all that stuff apart just to install them.
All of mine have plastic pedals. Never had a problem with them and am rather abusive to my V8 swapped car in particular |

I'll probably order those. Thanks Are you doing the OEM clutch or have you not decided yet? I can't really give a nod to the UUC kit until I get more mileage on it. It really depends on how long it holds up for. It is quite nice to drive, it broke in really nice. The light flywheel is awesome. For being a heavy truck you can't get much closer to a track car. It handles a lot like one for sure. I do want to take it lapping next summer after I get the shocks and good tires on it. It's pretty touchy, it will chatter if you don't get it perfect but after some experience it's very nice around town. I think I prefer it over OEM. The gearbox chatter is a little bit of a thing, it's unfortunate, but it doesn't really bother me. The supercharger will all be worth it.
