Exhaust fumes issue

The issue i had was that when the car was running i would get exhaust fumes coming in to the cabin. It was okay when the car was moving but stationary the cabin filled up with fumes.

I changed the exhaust manifold hoping that this would fix the issue. But, it did not fix the issue at all.

So, i was trying to eliminate what the issue could be. I know that the new cast iron exhaust manifold is attached correctly and so is the turbo unit.

I think that the flexi down pipe may be cracked and will need to be replaced.

When i accelerate i get a sqretching sound, almost like a fan belt needing to be replaced.

Has anyone come across this issue?

Also, is there a gasket between the turbo exhaust output to the flexi down pipe?

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you

For me when I experienced this...the culprit was the firewall material that had shrunken from water moisture opened up and allowed engine fumes to also be sucked into the cockpit.

I will have a look tomorrow at the firewall material.

If i look in the engine bay i can see the smoke, smell it and you know its there when your eyes start hurting too...

Thanks

Also, have you checked the EGR connections and fittings? Exhaust leaks can occur in the EGR pipework etc.

I have removed the EGR pipe and blanked off the port on the exhaust manifold.

Could it be a burning oil smell? I get a smell on mine now and then. I know the valve cover leaks onto the manifold shield.

Nope, just a tapered (conical) joint.

I suspect that the flexi pipe exhaust is cracked and that is letting out the exhaust fumes.
I will have a look and see what the issue is at the weekend and report back.
