concerning the use of BMW blinkers; I didn't get the memo, obviously....

Ok, I've heard all the jokes (for MANY years, and really became aware of only after I got my first & only BMW in '21)) about BMW drivers not using their blinkers, but it seems to be a common thing, in reality.

After watching a few YouTube vids in the last week, including today, where BMW drivers-vs-blinkers was mentioned, I actually watched out for BMW blinker-usage during my 25-mile drive to/from the grocery store yesterday, and the legend was confirmed.

Out of six BMW's I saw on the road, X's and sedans both, NONE used blinkers! I, of course, always use mine (mainly to warn others of my turns, so as to keep them from hitting me, and, I "drive Friendly", as road signs in Texas always used to espouse).

As best I could tell, all the other cars weren't driven by elderly male Boomers, so maybe common courtesy while driving isn't a "thing" nowadays.

<invokes the meme pic of a BMW assembly line captioned "if you feel useless at work at least you're not the guy who installs turn signals at BMW">

I use mine religiously, trying to set a good example... and nobody cares. I still do it.

I use mine just to freak people out.

Two items help attract attention so not to be rear ended. Plate LED lights. Very bright when on. A BMW X5 sticker on the third brake light. I've seen people take pictures of the BMW X5 sticker when it's on at a stop light.

Trained to drive in Europe more than 40 years ago now, some things are so ingrained they are hard to unlearn. Using indicators, driving in slow lane when not overtaking and not overtaking another vehicle on their passenger side are just a few examples.

Back then there we no mobile phones, so distracted driving was not an issue. I enjoy driving and have no burning desire to do 20 other things at the same time. Funny thing,it is not always phones either, about 2007 I got hit in rush traffic very gently by a guy in a classic Jaguar who apparently really needed to read his morning paper, ugh!
