Bad ABS module? Trifecta, speedo doesn't work, replaced sensor

I'm wondering if this can be anything else, or if there's a way to test.

I've had this trifecta light for a few months.
I know my angle position sensor was bad, so I replaced and calibrated it. It helped somewhat.

Sometimes abs/dcs and speedo would work, and sometimes it wouldn't.
Now if I leave X5 parked overnight, the error clears itself.
When I start driving, it comes back on right away.
I removed the old sensor and cleaned it, but no luck.
Bought a new sensor from rockauto (Hella), and still no luck.
Clearing the error doesn't help.
I checked in INPA, and when driving, each wheel is showing speed, but not the left rear one.
I'm not sure what else to try other than replace ABS module.

Bad wire, bad connector.

Sadly heat kills the internals of the module. Bond wires break.

There are places that rebuild them.

Would it work longer when cold outside? You could pack ice on your abs module as a test to confirm the source.

I'll try to grab a module from a scrap yard and test it. If that's the problem I can send my for rebuild.
Looks like they're not Interchangeable between other series, and my only donors would be X5s up to 2003/09 built date. Then just code it with ncs expert, should be pretty straight forward.

It didn't work any better at -40C. Or maybe now that I think of it, i did work a little longer. Hopefully it's just the module

disconnect the main connector looks for any corrosion, clean if necessary. The problem with donor modules is the odds of it being also broken.

Yes I just wanted to try replacing it with an old one to see if this specific error goes away. Then I'll send off mine for repair.

I checked all the yards, none of X5s have these modules lol. They must be in demand!
Interestingly I removed a module from E39 2000 pump, and it seems to fit on X5 pump lol!
No idea if it would actually work, if they're Interchangeable or what's the difference

Realoem shows no shared chassis with the module only e 53.

Repair service

https://www.ebay.com/itm/19703566878...mis&media=COPY

Used, tested.

There are high end repair services where they CNC cut off the back and have proper welding tools to replace the bond wires it was $300 last i found that service.

I tried the eBay route too with my trifecta with no luck. It was from an X5 too, but a different year, or motor if I recall. My Indy also tried to reprogram the module, but no luck with that either.

I would get the trifecta after the car warmed up…10 or so min of driving. I assume the module was warming up and shorting internally.

I ended up buying a new one. Not cheap unfortunately, but that’s the price paid for using the x5 as my daily. Until the wife sees fit to buy me a new M3.

I went the eBay route, thinking a pre facelift e53 module would work fine. It didn’t, so I limped it to my Indy who attempted to squirt some ones and zeros into it, still no-workie. We were unable to tell if the unit was bad, wrong software still, or what. I was out of days off so broke down and bought the new module.
