5L40E transmission line oil block
Does anyone overseas manufacture a line block? A conversion would make it easier to bypass the factory transmission oil cooler. ![]()

Cool! Thanks! An order for OEM replacement hose was placed over the weekend. First email this morning, order was cancelled.

line block or flusher attachment tool?
Here's a flusher attachment tool made for the 5L40E by Kent-Moore (which manufactures most of the General Motors specialty tools): https://www.ebay.com/itm/271930056576
![]() I haven't looked at the transmission cooler lines on mine, but if this tool will attach to yours, then perhaps you can make your own set-up, with SAE or AN fittings. I made a few coolers/lines for my cars/trucks, and always found that they'd work better than the factory set-up.

workingonit,
The Kent-Moore did show up in a search. The tool is specifically made to flush oil coolers. Transmission lines bolt to it. A 5L40E case connection looks like picture #2. Older transmissions have threaded holes. A 5L40e has o ring style connections. Adapters are made for 6L80E and later model transmissions. -AN fittings are secure and leak proof for high pressures. With an adapter, I can install an external cooler myself. A local shop quoted ~$500 to install a cooler. All they would probably do is cut flex the hose part. At the barb, they would use clamps to hold a rated hose. One clamp is not enough. A crimp would hold. I would be hard to trust even two clamps on single barb line. Real OEM has the part number for the lower hose as 17227509301. The other is 17227509300. For the cost of one hose, an external cooler is not much more. Other than labor time to install it behind the AUX fan. Right above the engine oil cooler.

Finally loaded up the X5 for a shop run. The shop confirmed it was 1/2 quart low on transmission fluid. A transfer case oil change was done too. I guess I didn't snap on the lower cooler line good enough. It's why it leaked. The second time, I used long hose pliers to pull and tug on it. The shop checked for leaks and drove it around. No coolant leaks and no transmission leaks. A new oil cooler is finally secured.
The HEMI had no problem towing its own weight. I probably pushed the Class IV tongue weight to the limit. The HEMI rear leaf springs sure did squat. While it was loaded up, I took time to soap wash the underside. Degreaser cleaned off a lot dust and debris. I didn't have black trim refresher. It would have been easy to fresh black trims.
