Yes that looks like a completely different formula from the previous one they were using. 229.3 is still a good spec along with the VW and Porsche spec. The 229.5 and LL01 have much longer oil drains as a criteria though. If you really need to get your oil changed now and that is the only option I'd run it, but I'd be conservative on the interval. Better than running on spent oil. But I'd look for an LL01 or 229.5 if possible.

Right apologies to bring this up again re the bmw approval on oils, this company produces below spec oil that is BMW LL 01 approved https://www.avista-lubes.de/en/produ...ger-sae-5w-40/
The same company as mentioned earlier supplies 5w-40 synthetic oil to a large supermarket chain that sells the oil under its own label however the oil is MINUS the BMW LL 01 approved. Is this to do with the supermarket having to pay royalties or any fee to have the BMW-LL01 on its product label or not? I have approached supermarket with simple question and doubt will get answer , question being the oil you sell under your own name is it the same as the one the oil company makes...? Viscosity: SAE 5W-40 Approvals: API SN; BMW LL 01; MB-Freigabe 229.5 Specification: ACEA A3/B4 Recommendation: API CF; Fiat 9.55535- M2; GM-LL-B-025; Porsche A40; PSA B71 2296 (2014); VW 502 00 / 505 00; MB 226.5; MB 229.3; Renault RN 0700 / 0710

Are all the other approvals still mentioned on the supermarket branded container/label, esp. the MB approval?

MB 229.5: Generally considered more stringent regarding sludge resistance (scoring 10/10 vs. 8/10 for LL-01), deposits, evaporation loss, and wear protection. BMW LL-01: Often has more stringent oxidation requirements, which is critical for pushing the maximum oil change interval. It scores slightly higher for wear protection in some comparison charts (8/10 vs. 7/10 for MB 229.5). Shared Standard: Both specifications require a minimum High-Temperature High-Shear (HTHS) viscosity of 3.5, ensuring the oil maintains its protective film under extreme stress.
