I've also seen the valve cover disintegrate and cause repeated leaks despite resealing.

Yeah, the M62 valve covers are terrible. They corrode terribly. It's ridiculous that BMW was worried about saving a few ounces of weight on the valve covers for these things. I'd have been happier if they made them from cast iron.
