Question about exterior Pillar Window moldings?

I had a concern about the matt black pillar moldings once...I wasn't interested in changing the color.
Plain and simple for me:
Plasti Dipp
Love that stuff!
The molding was chipping and cracking...blimishing beginning to look like fish scales.
Just sanded the molding down till smooth and even. Washed, dryed.
Then sprayed couple light sheets of the plasti dipp, drys fast blends right in when dry. I was worried about how long it would last especially due to the heat.
That was little over 16 mos ago haven't had to revisit any!

Plastic Dipp........ You either love or hate the stuff.......not for me, I find it really cheapens things.

I used PlastiDip once, and it worked well for the application. I hated the bland argent silver grille on my 2009 Chevy HHR Panel, and was going to paint it black.

Since it is plastic, I was going to use Krylon's plastic paint, but I had previously painted a set of plastic wheel covers with it, and they chipped badly from rocks and gravel. Instead, I chose black spray-on PlastiDip.

I removed the grille, cleaned it thoroughly with some plastic degreaser I found at Home Depot (also where I bought the 'Dip), and sprayed the grille with four coats of the 'Dip, leaving it to dry 2 hours between coats, hanging in the garage.

The HHR had 11k miles on it in 2009, when I 'Dip'd it, and it has 190k miles on it now in 2026, and still looks pretty good, with some dip flaked off from rock chips.

I used to lightly retouch it every few years, while it was my daily driver on my 120 mile daily commute, before retiring 12-31-2015, but not in the past five years or so (it is good enough for a beater/utility/back up vehicle).

I might spray my X's roof rack if needed, but currently it only has one spot that the black chipped off, and I wrapped silicone tape around it, and it has lasted 5 years in Texas sun (not garaged, nor has the HHR been, though bought in Dec.'08).

Actually the paint on the roof and hood needs to be stripped off and repainted. The vertical panels anre't bad and could benefit from a correction. I was thinking of doing the roof and hood in a medium beige-y color

I plugged my mounting holes with plastic plugs. I'll see if I can find where I bought them. They had a bit of texture on top which I sanded off and then painted them with color matched paint for the car. Put a little silicone on them when I installed them. No signs of any leaks. I like the look of the car without the racks.
