I will give this a try sometime this week with a hose. will report back. Thanks!

You will be surprised how well the hose works, even better if you put a plug in the opposite ear but you probably won't even need that.

So I haven't had the time to do anything with the hose yet. The noise did change and I can hear it during the entire rev now. I am basically sure my engine itself is fine at this point and that it is something with either the cats or the heatshields. Based on this new noise clip, its probably the cats. This was taken inside the right wheel well.

I went ahead and ordered a Borescope Camera from amazon and will use it on Saturday to go into the O2 Sensor Bank 1 and check on the cats.

I still wanna do the hose method check, but I haven't had anyone around while I am off work to actually help with that. But if my borescope findings are definitive then I may skip it even though I like the idea.

Because the noise seems worse, I will probably stop driving it today and wait till I check the cats this weekend to start driving it again.

What brand of endoscope did you buy? I'm looking at buying one too. With new O2 sensors ready for installation, looking into the cat would be nice. Mine had an oil smoke when I bought it. It's gone after lots of maintenance.

Is the sound continuously the same pitch? Cat rattle should be random and different.

I ordered this one, Endoscope Camera with Light, 1920P HD Borescope Tools, Dual Lens(16.5FT) by MugEasy on amazon.

As for the noise, the pitch and frequency has changed couple times. It has to do with heat because the car has 0 noises in the morning while cold and after sitting for 10 mins. im still sure its not parts of engine that interact with oil because the noise had almost 0 difference after an oil change. Hopefully tomorrow morning ill have my answer if all goes well checking through the o2 sensors. I replaced them couple years ago and still have the special socket for them.

Well I got my answer. Both bank 1 and 2 honeycombs are melted and destroyed. Probably have been for awhile since ive had power problems for the past year. I chalked it up to the mileage. I am gonna look at my options. I was planning on buying a F15 X5 before end of year so, I will think about my next steps. Here’s picture of bank 2 which is where the noise was from.

Oh man. Cats don't last forever. How many miles on it?

Can you provide a scope part number? The link sends us to a front search page. How did you like the endoscope? The pic looks very good. The resolution is good to see hidden issues.

They have 223k miles so im not surprised they look like this after 20 years.

I apologize for the link. Amazon is being weird with that. I ordered Endoscope Camera with Light, 1920P HD Borescope Tools, Dual Lens(16.5FT) by MugSafe on Amazon
