I just got a set of 19" rims and I need help
Here are my options: Yokohama ADVAN S.T. Kumho ECSTA STX Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico (Back order) I will need to wait. All of them are from tirerack and they have similar prices. Any comments, problems with any of them? I live in Bay Area, no snow, maybe a few times a year when I go to Tahoe. Thanks and let me know |

yoko's are real good...low tire noise, good thread life usually altho im not sure about that specific model
kumho's are good but they wear out and puncture way too fast...i have no experience on the pirelli's so i can't comment on those...why not look into toyo proxes? they have excellent wet traction and especially out here in CA they hug the roads like no other

Where can I get the toyo proxes from?
Tirerack doesn't have them.

If you go to Tahoe in the winter time, then you'll NEED the Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico. Worth the wait....in the other tires, even a thin layer of snow or ice will make your X5 spin and lose traction so fast, you'll be stuck or worse, spin out and crash your car.
The Pirelli do well for dry weather driving as well as rain, but if you are going to encounter snow/ice, then you have no other choice. We a few inches of snow and I do go to the mountains in SoCal. The Pirelli are also M+S rated as well. I have them on my 19" wheels as well and I went through 18" inches of fresh snow with no problem!! Good luck. Quote:

I went with the Pirelli.
Tirerack are on back order for another month. I got lucky that one of the local tire places had them in stock, wheel works. Out the door was 1200 including an aligment. The aligment was off, not within the range and they fix that. I don't think that car had an aligment done before, so it was a good thing that those guys checked it. Pretty happy with the Pirelli so far, no road noise and pretty good in the rain.

Have you checked out the stock Michelin Diamaris? Summer tire only but mine seem to be holding up pretty well and I think they perform well too...

Yes, but the Michelin Diamaris don't do squat when the temps drop below 35F or even in a few inches of snow or slush or ice. Don't ask me how I know (I used to have Michelin Diamaris and it seem ridiculous that a SUV with AWD could NOT be driven in the snow).
The Pirelli will fulfill his requirements when Badboggy goes to Lake Tahoe. Quote:

Michelin's are pure crap and I'm not just saying it....I've had them on my last 3 cars which came stock with those tires, on each vehicle I changed them out for Toyo's
