Shiny Gauge Rings? Yes or No

Well this is my 3rd post about the guage rings. First was the post about the warranty issues and the second post was about glue needed to install. Now I am looking for a different set and came across these babies.
I know they look after market, but I think all the new high-end cars have these type of gauage rings. Let me know what you think.

As you might already know, this has been a pretty hot topic. I'm not sure which rings you looked at that required glue but the ones from eBay that most of us have used do not require any glue. They simply snap in, sometimes with a little coaxing. I had to file down a couple of the rings to make them fit. Cost is about $30 to $40 a set from eBay. The ones you show in your post are interesting because they are more squared off whereas the ones we've gotten are more rounded and like a thin lip rather than the wider bezel. What's the cost of those?

To answer your original question: I held off from doing it for a long time, thinking it was frivolous but now that I have them, the gauges would look naked without them. I say do it!

These are the ones that need glue.

I got these on E-Bay from a vendor in Germany.
When I install them and they fell out. I contact the seller and he say to superglue them. I also contact a buyer who had purchase the same set and he told me he went to an autopart store and bought epoxy. He has had no problems.
I do like these rings but I have bad luck and no way want to use glue.

Look better in person.

I was at Santa Barabra Bimmerfest 2006 and talked to a guy with an X5.
He had these rings installed, they really look nice and much better than the picture shows.

Also the rings are flush to the cluster - not sticking out as the picture.

IMHO shiny chrome is too glitzy. I like a matte finish, something more resembling titanium or aluminum. I'm glad you brought up the issue with the loose rings from Germany. I was looking at those on eBay.

i brought the same set from Germany. I used superglue as well, except once dryed there was a haze over the cluster. Had to use nail polish remover to clean up the haze.

looks like the above picture now.

Its quite an easy decision to make from an aesthetic point of view!Do you have other chrome items in your iinterior?I dont, which is why I installed the aluminium rings that are not so shiny!
