Newbie with '04 X5 4.4i

Hello everyone. I just recently traded in my '04 325Ci convertible for an '04 X5 4.4i (I needed more room for the kids!). I am loving this upgrade. I wouldn't have traded my convertible in unless the X5 had the looks to match and this one does. I had a strange thing happen this morning... I got a call on the X5's phone and I answered it and it was a wrong number! I didn't even know this car had a phone (there's nothing under the glove box or a pairing button). Can anyone tell me how this is possible. Please help!! I'd love to pair my Treo 650 with the X5's phone...if this car does have one. Thanks!!!

I went from this...

To this beauty...

Welcome to X5World! You made a nice choice, in vehicles and in online communities.

As far as the phone is concerned, there are only two options. The prior owner's phone is still in the car (Bluetooth connected but lost under the seat or something), or the call was actually from BMW Assist.

Check under the owners manual for pairing mode, there are also posts on here on how to check if your vehicle is equipped w/ bluetooth.
Enjoy the new upgrade.

Like you, I also went from a 3 series convertible to an X5. That was 4 years ago and I have loved the X5 ever since.

Regarding the phone call, what more than likely happened is someone called the phone number associated with your BMW Assist module. If you had thought to ask them what number they dialed then you could have used it to have others call you. But it won't work for placing calls like a normal cell phone.

The Bluetooth capability in the 2004 Assist modules was disabled. So if you want this option then you'll need to replace the TCU (telecommunication unit) with one that supports this. If your vehicle was made before April 2004 then your only option is the Visteon Bluetooth module (and you will loose Assist). If your vehicle was made after April 2004 then you can also go with the TCU from a 2005 or newer and have both Assist and Bluetooth.
