eurobahn chip 4.8 900$ worth it??

So just got quoted for the eurobahn chip at 900$. this is what the guys excact email was:

Hi Vlad,

Yes! We finally have the equipment to install the software for your BMW X5 4.8is. You can expect gains of 20 HP & 24 ft/lbs of tourque @ the wheels. On top of that the speed limiter has been removed & throttle response is greatly improved. We need your vehicle for two days to fully complete the install. The cost for the software & installation is $899.00, plus tax.

Do u think i should go through with it?

i wouldn't do it unless you wanna be their test mule
why do they need your vehicle?
they would only need your ECU,
if you really want a chip just look at powerchip, at least they have some proven results
or go for dinan

Heres what some e46 guys say...

I have an E46 M3 stock with a 6 speed tranny. My friend has a 2002 Old style S4 with 6 speed tranny as well. Hes not stock...he has a chip...GIAC X-Chip he says and full Neuspeed exhaust with downpipe. Anyways...we've raced a few times already...from a stop and also from a rolling start at various speeds....his car just woops mine everytime. Now....as for driver skill...we both compete in SCCA events and have taking racing school at Laguna Seca....we both are pretty skilled drivers. From a stand still...he just smokes me out of the hole and I have no chance in catching him...I thought the E46 M3 should be able to smoke those darn S4's??? What gives? He always beats me by 3-4 cars. And on the freeway...he always pulls on my from 60 -120 about 1-3 cars and stays that way till we shut it down at 130( thats the fastest we've done). Im disappointed that my car cannot beat his cuz we are pretty competitive towards eachother and now he has the bragging rights that he's got my M3 beat. NOW....what can I do to make my M3 faster???

Anyone with any input at all???

Differential is probably your best bang for the buck, also Intake (renn-sport.net has a special on the M3 gruppeM right now).

I believe there is a shark injector chip for the m3 that should help a bit as well.

Cool...thanx for the info Justin. Would any kind of exhaust system help as well? Reason why I ask about mods is because Ive heard from a few different people that the E46 M3 is pretty much maxxed out and CAN NOT be modded...therefore a chip or intake would not do any good. Is that true?

there is not alot you can do, but chip and intake will help some... people have also claimed to get small gains from Exaust. The 1 thing you can change for "relatively" cheap that will make a big difference is your differential.

i heard some ppl said: "diffy is a poor man's s/c or turbo" ..haha!!

Ok cool....I will look into the rear diff. Thanx again. Oh BTW.....anyone from teh NorCal region? Any meets or get togethers happen up here in my neck of the woods???

if you're going to get a chip get the Eurobahn chip. it is awesome! you can feel the difference right after you get it installed.

and ive raced an 02 S4 at the 1/4 track and he had the same mods, but i dont know what kind of chip. and i beat him, barely. both times. so i guess the chip helped me =)

i have a question as well.

im wondering if a 3.91 diff. will work with an SMG II tranny?

some people say yes and some say no.

so i dont know. what do you guys think?

WOW....with that chip...you were able to beat his S4!!! Hell ya...Im stoked...I wanna get the chip and Diffy for sure....S4 is gonna get OWNED!!!

A twin turbo S4 with chip, exhaust, and downpipe is pushing close to 350 horsepower...those things are ****ing fast

and also Eurobahn software prices are great. theyre the cheapest out there and i believe so far the best in performance.

and an exhaust system would be nice too, with a GruppeM CIA. =)

Damn My Corrado would really hurt his feelings... Its only a VW too. I myself find it hard to believe just a chip made that difference. In his M. A few of my friends have S4's in the low 12's in the 1820. I would ask these chip companies for before and after dyno charts. Like GIAC when I got one of my chipsets from them I wanted proof first> now some can be fudged alittle but you"ll get a better idea.

ahh.. stop comparing turbo'd vehicles to N/A vehicles its two different things when it comes to modding everyone knows that. There is a reason why its turbo'd any car that is turbo'd would be nothing if it was an N/A engine, so they add the turbo to give it that more umphh... besides the bmw 335 turbo lol obv im gonna be bias when it comes to bmw.

but hey i know when i had my 330xi with only a shark chip, intake, and eisenmann exhaust.. i beat 3WRX's with exhaust and b5 s4 with exhaust and intake.
and i mean id race them off the line multiple times and from 40mph roll to 120mph oh the high school days of racing... so the turbo cars arent all that

I've been throug a lot of modifications on past vehicles. In my opinion, I would not do it unless they have proof in the way of a dyno sheet on multiple 4.8is applications showing the gains. Study the graphs too as it's the area under the curve which is important, not just peak numbers at one rpm.

isnt it almost impossible to dyno the X5's? Making no dyno charts ever be available

they do make AWD dyno's you know. The dynopac system is very good. It can add load and everything to get very accurate results. These company's shouldn't claim certain gains unless they can back it up. Most of them will like it VW and Audi's cases I sent GIAC an email requesting dyno and timing plots and A/F ratios plotted in the complete RPM range till redline and Garrett Himself emailed them to me. Most reputable company's should do that.
