What Is Involved In E53 Shock Replacement?

Trying to decide if this is a DIY within my capabilities. Any insight appreciated.

Precisely. Remember to purchase everything new. This includes front strut and spring combo and shock for the rear w/ air suspension....or spring and shock for rear

You wouldn't, but I would. I'm looking for some general information on what is involved so that I can decide if I want to tackle it (which is what the question asks). I did not ask for you to assess my capabilities.
