Pretty sure it was done since the post was on Apr.2012. I can't imagine he drive it for more than a year and half with that code.
I replaced my Purge Valve to get rid of the P0443 code on my E39. Very easy DIY job. Part cost $89 at the local dealer.

Yes, turned out that my left cat converter was welded on prior to my purchase and needed replacment. Because I had spent astromincally on the code, BMW North America helped with the costs.

There's no vacuum or pressure when I open the gas cap, would that be the purge valve. Gas cap is new.

Thanks for posting this, my 2002 x5 just threw this code and while I have replaced this part before on our E46 330Ci, I wanted to make sure I ruled out any other causes. Hopefully I still have the old purge valve and its the same (looks the same).

Hey man, thank you for the diagram and picture, I was indeed changing the EVAP canister purge valve and accidentally pull to much the hose and disconnected, I was looking all around for information on how to put it back but there is not much about it, at least now I have an idea on how and where this is connected, I donít know if I can do this myself but if not I will have to take the car to a mechanic friend.
Thanks again 👍🏽
